Floating Lumbar Machine

Lumbar Floating Decompression

This therapy is currently unique to our office and the only one in Oklahoma. It is simple to view and understand. The large padded arms support the patient around the ribs and the chair seat is lowered out from under the patient, thereby allowing gravity to decompress and stretch the spine.

The lumbar floating decompression is a terrific complement to the DRX-9000 lumbar decompression and in some instances is sufficient by itself to decompress the lumbar discs.

Also exciting for patients with hardware in their spine from surgery; this approach works for them. So if the spine has been surgically fused using screws and plates and the patient is experiencing pain locally, or it is referring into one or both legs, this approach is safe and effective for decompression of the lumbar spine.

Plan of care includes:

  1. Floating decompress of the discs
  2. Neuromuscular re-education of the lumbar muscles
  3. Proprioceptive training for the postural component
  4. Core strengthening of  the muscles
  5. Neurocare Electrical stimulation for muscle re-education and strengthening

Floating Lumbar Suspension System FAQ's

What is Floating Decompression?

Floating Lumbar Suspension is the only new advanced technology in the decompression industry in the past 2 years. Because of collaboration with both U.S. and foreign design engineers, The Floating Lumbar Suspension System was developed in the most accurate, precise and effective procedure to treat non-specific low back pain. Floating Decompression eliminates the exact gravitational pressure without exceeding or over stretching the patients damaged or irritated area. As effective as horizontal force/traction decompression may be, there still exists the potential to program either too much or not enough force. Both scenarios cause negative outcomes.

Why is the Protec Floating Lumbar Suspension System Vertical?

A person only experiences downward torso pressure on the lower back in the vertical position. Protec designed and developed horizontal therapy 10 years ago, but has continued ongoing research to improve patient outcomes. Only Floating Therapy allows the doctor to employ mobilization, exercise and stretching at the same time the patient decompresses. The result is significantly improved outcomes and patients comfort. The vertical floating therapy system parallels the same logic as with upright vertical imaging versus horizontal imaging.

Why is Floating therapy so much more accurate than horizontal force traction/ decompression?

The formula for all horizontal table is based on the theory that half a person body weight occurs above and half below the belt line (iliac crest). In reality this formula is seldom if ever accurate. Variable such as height, age, body morphology, bone density and tissue density renders the formula at best... A guess. As an example, muscle weighs more than fat... Therefore a fat person may appear bigger because of mass, but the muscular person weigh more because of density.

Does Floating Therapy have the same indications and contradiction as horizontal therapy?

Yes, the Floating Lumbar Suspension System is the only system that delivers the precise amount of unloading for each individual patients body weight. There is no guessing. Therefore this natural pressure elimination of upper torso on the low back can safely and effectively be applied to almost any non-specific low back condition. [Condition like spondylisthesis, Central canal stenosis, osteoporosis and instrumented hardware or body fusion will be discussed during training.]

What type of additional therapy should be incorporated at time of procedure?

The Floating Lumbar Suspension System includes decompression, as well as concomitant stretching, exercise mobilization and therapeutic activity to improve flexibility and range of motion.

Is there a cervical component (attachment) available?

Yes. The cervical attachment is available as with the Floating Lumbar Suspension System.

Can the Floating Lumbar Suspension System be integrated into any existing decompression practice?

Yes. The Floating Lumbar Suspension System will add a new dimension and procedure to treating back and neck pain. Because of the design of Floating Lumbar Suspension System, many acute lower back pain patients find it much more comfortable than the horizontal table. The Floating Lumbar Suspension System gives the physician many options unavailable on horizontal tables.
